International Medical Services of
The First People's Hospital of Yunnan Province
1. Hospital Overview
Founded in April 1939, The First People’s Hospital of Yunnan Province is an affiliated hospital of Kunming University of Science and Technology. It has developed into a large comprehensive hospital integrating medical care, teaching, research, emergency rescue, and international medical services. The hospital is home to the province’s only National Emergency Medical Rescue Team and also serves as a medical technology training base for South and Southeast Asia. It has been approved as a second-batch National Regional Respiratory Medical Center and designated as a pilot hospital for the national flagship program of integrated Traditional Chinese and Western medicine.
Currently, the hospital has 1,483 staff with master’s or doctoral degrees, and 786 associate professors or above. It operates 3,570 open beds and provides more than two million outpatient and inpatient services annually, covering the full spectrum of care from common and frequently occurring illnesses to complex and critical conditions. By the end of 2025, the hospital’s East Campus will be put into phased operation with 2,000 planned beds, and will be developed into an international hospital integrating respiratory medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, and emergency/critical care. Upholding a patient-centered philosophy, the hospital standardizes international medical service procedures to provide convenient, accessible, and high-quality medical care and rehabilitation follow-up for both domestic and international patients.
2. Advanced Equipment for International Medical Services
Benchmarking itself against the highest international standards, the hospital maintains nearly 18,000 sets of medical equipment spanning the entire continuum of care—from laboratory testing and diagnostics to treatment and rehabilitation—ensuring international patients receive medical services equivalent to those at leading global institutions.
In imaging, the hospital introduced the first photon-counting CT in the Yunnan–Guizhou region, delivering clearer images at lower radiation doses, capable of detecting subtle lesions at an earlier stage, and particularly suitable for children and older adults. Its 5.0T ultra-high-field MRI enables fine imaging of the brain and joints, while the existing 3.0T MRI provides faster scanning and clearer images for abdominal, vascular, and other examinations. The hospital is also equipped with PET-CT, ultrasound, digital X-ray, and angiography, offering one-stop imaging services.
In treatment, linear accelerators deliver tumor-shaped “targeted irradiation,” effectively controlling tumors while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. The Da Vinci surgical robot assists in performing complex minimally invasive procedures in urology, general surgery, and gynecology, resulting in smaller incisions, less bleeding, and faster recovery.
In laboratory testing, fully automated pipelines enable most results to be available within 1–2 hours, reducing wait times and expediting clinical decisions.
In rehabilitation, comprehensive pain management and functional training devices provide sustained support for postoperative recovery and functional restoration.
With these advanced facilities and a multidisciplinary team, international patients can access a full-cycle, closed-loop medical service at our hospital—from precise screening and standardized treatment to comprehensive rehabilitation management.
3. Introduction to the International Medical Department
The International Medical Department serves international patients and patients with special medical needs, dedicated to providing comprehensive, multi-tiered, and internationalized high-quality medical and health management services.
International medical services are tailored to each patient by rapidly matching them with experienced specialists and organizing multidisciplinary consultations (MDT). When necessary, integrative Traditional Chinese and Western medicine, nutrition, rehabilitation, and psychological support are incorporated to form individualized treatment plans. Throughout the entire course of medical care, bilingual medical staff or service personnel accompany patients, ensuring bilingual communication support, respect for religious and cultural practices, and strict protection of privacy. Dedicated staff coordinate diagnostic and treatment appointments to shorten waiting times and enhance care efficiency. Upon completion of treatment, bilingual (Chinese–English) medical summaries and billing statements are provided. A follow-up and revisit reminder system is established to support recovery and long-term health management.
